শিশু ডাক্তার বা পেডিয়াট্রিশিয়ান হলেন সেই চিকিৎসক যিনি নবজাতক থেকে শুরু করে কিশোর বয়স (সাধারণত ১৬ বছর পর্যন্ত) পর্যন্ত শিশুদের স্বাস্থ্য সমস্যা, টিকা, বৃদ্ধি, পুষ্টি এবং রোগ প্রতিরোধে বিশেষজ্ঞ। তাঁরা শিশুর জন্মের পরপরই নিয়মিত স্বাস্থ্যপরীক্ষা এবং যে কোনো জটিলতা পর্যবেক্ষণ করেন।

প্রশ্ন ৪: শিশুর কথা বলা দেরিতে শুরু হলে কি চিন্তার বিষয়?
উত্তর: দুই বছরের মধ্যে কথা বলা শুরু না হলে শিশুর শ্রবণ, বুদ্ধিমত্তা ও নিউরো বিকাশ পরীক্ষা করানো উচিত।
প্রশ্ন ৫: শিশুর স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা কতদিন পরপর করানো উচিত?
উত্তর: জন্মের পর প্রথম ৬ মাসে প্রতি মাসে, এরপর ১ বছর বয়স পর্যন্ত প্রতি ২-৩ মাস অন্তর চেকআপ করানো ভালো। তারপর বছরে অন্তত ২ বার রুটিন চেকআপ করা উচিত।
